Heart 2023 - Cardiac Pharmacology

Sub-Track:

Cardiovascular pharmacology deals with the drugs used for the treatment of cardiac diseasesCardiac Drugs are used to treat heart conditions or the circulatory or vascular system. The pharmaceutical industry has played an important role in advancing new medications for the treatment of cardiovascular disease, and certainly, there are more significant benefits in order to treat patients. In this sub-topic, we have ACE inhibitors, Sodium, potassium, calcium channel blockers, and Cardiac biomarkers. There are 6 associations and societies for Cardiac Therapeutic Agents in the USA. 50 universities are working on Cardiac Therapeutic Agents. Recently new drug named Entresto (ARNI) is a combination of two compounds that reduces the risk of cardiovascular death. As of 2021, Modern heart drug therapy includes “big six” medications such as:
  • Statins — to lower LDL cholesterol
  • Aspirin — to prevent blood clots
  • Clopidogrel — to prevent blood clots
  • Warfarin — to prevent blood clots
  • Beta-blockers — to treat heart attack
  • ACE inhibitors — to treat heart failure and low blood pressure

If a person had a heart attack, he/she had to undergo certain procedures to help survive from heart attack and diagnose the condition. If the treatment is not done immediately after a heart attack, many patients will need to undergo a Cardiac Surgery such as coronary angioplasty or coronary artery bypass graft surgery (CABG) to improve blood supply to the heart.
