University of Karachi, PakistanTitle: Association between diabetes mellitus and cardiovascular diseases and their epidemiology
Abstract
Objective: This study aimed to assess the link
between diabetes mellitus and cardiovascular disease by discussing the
mechanism of disease progression, increasing prevalence and the current
management of CVD in diabetic patients.
Methods: A computerized survey form was employed
to collect data for this study. Data were congregated from the United Medical
and Dental College of Pakistan and the University of Karachi.
Results: Diabetes mellitus (DM) is considered one
of the world's most common and expensive chronic illnesses, and its incidence
continues to climb. Cardiovascular disease (CVD) the most common cause of
morbidity and death in diabetic individuals, and DM is closely related.
Patients with diabetes mellitus (DM) frequently have cardiovascular (CV) risk
factors, including obesity, hypertension, and dyslipidemia, which puts them at
higher risk for cardiac events.
Conclusions: The link between diabetes and CVD is
summarised in this study, along with potential disease-progression mechanisms,
recommended treatments, and directions for further research.
