Presentation Title:

A clinical case of surgical treatment of a patient with the physiology of a single ventricle and heterotaxy syndrome

Abstract

Clinical case of palliative surgical treatment of a 9-month-old boy with a severe form of congenital heart disease as part of heterotaxy syndrome. The patient presented with a rare combination of anatomical anomalies: situs viscerus inversus, dextrocardia, ventricular septal defect (functionally single ventricle), common atrioventricular valve with mild regurgitation, functionally common atrium, severe pulmonary valve stenosis with minimal antegrade flow, hypoplasia of the main pulmonary artery trunk and both right and left pulmonary branches, malposition of the great arteries, and aortopulmonary collateral vessels. Given the presence of heart failure class IV (NYHA), a decision was made to perform a bidirectional cavopulmonary anastomosis as part of the staged Fontan strategy.
