Effect of Mindful Meditation to Reduce Severity of Cardiovascular Diseases at King Fahad Specialist Hospital Dammam
Abstract
Background: Noncomunicable disease NCD acount for more than 70% of total deaths in Saudi Arabia SA. Cardiovascular Diseases CVDs are the leading caus of death in saudi arabia and account for nearly 40% of total deaths of NCD. Age, gender, education, socioeconomic factors, and place of residency affects the rate of CVD ocurance. Physical inactivity, sedentary lifestyle, saturated fatty acid high diet, smoking, and stress are all identified risk factors for CVD.
Aim: The study evaluates the effect of mindful mediation, physical activity, and diet on CVD in SA.
Materials and Methods: This is a systematic electronic search method in Google Scholar, PubMed, and Medline. Papers collected are papers that have been published since 2015. The search uses the following keywords: (Cardiovascular disease OR physical activity OR Physical inactivity OR meditation OR diet) AND Saudi Arabia. Data were extracted from each study through a narrative sum- mary of each study.
Results: Forty papers collected from 2015 to 2022 were included in the narrative study. Physical activity, diet, and mindful meditation are among the factors that can reduce the risk of development of CVD or severity of disease in patients with a CVD.
Conclusion: This research findings represent the role of physical activity, mindful meditation, and diet in reducing the onset or severity of cardiovascular disease in Saudi Arabia.
Biography
Arwa Alsaber is a certified flowcytometry lab scientist (SCYM, ASCP), from Dammam, Saudi Arabia. She has a Master's degree in Healthcare Administration MHA and a Bachelor's in Medical Laboratory Technology MLT. She started her journey as a laboratory technologist in 2006 working in a tertiary hospital serving oncology and Transplant patients. Throughout her period, she participated in publishing eight papers. Her interest in wellness starts long before as a yoga practitioner, and breathing and meditation specialist. She decided to incorporate her knowledge to enhance her community mindset and found it most useful to incorporate it in hospitals to benefit cardiovascular patients.
