Abstract
Cardiac angiosarcomas are a rare, aggressive endothelial cell tumor
typically arising from the right atrial wall. They may aggressively invade the
surrounding myocardium, resulting in right heart failure, wall rupture, and
cardiac tamponade. First-line diagnosis is echocardiography for fast evaluation
of tumor extent and complications. Further diagnostic modalities include
cardiac MRI, CT and PET/CT scanning. Tumors often require size reduction by
chemo (paclitaxel) and radiation prior to surgical resection. Due to its
rarity, there is no standardized approach for cardiac sarcomas. This
presentation will compare recent findings in the literature on diagnostic
modalities, chemotherapy regimens, and surgical approaches.
