Title: Effectiveness of telehealth intervention on self care activities and functional ability among patients subjected to CABG

Abstract

Coronary artery diseaseis the major cause of morbidity in India and all over the world. According to WHO (2019) 17.9 million people died from CVD that accounts for 32 % global mortality .Coronary artery bypass graft remains the one of the main stay of treatment for CAD. Patients who have undergone major surgeries like CABG feels vulnerable and the period following discharge from hospital is crucial. Telehealth intervention reduce the gap between health provider and patients and also ensures quality care is delivered with CABG In countries with huge variation in accessibility of health services added with a COVID pandemic necessitates the need to test effectiveness of telehealth intervention on self -care activities and functional ability following CABG .Both male and female patients subjected to CABG for the first with EF more than35% aged 40-60 were enrolled for this study Using permuted block randomization there 30 were assigned to experimental and control arm. Study arm participants were given individual computer assisted teaching with demonstration before discharge along with self - instructional module whereas the controls received conventional care and self -instructional module. Pretest on self- care skills and functional ability were assessed on 5th Post-op day. Tele health intervention applied in this study were telephonic follow up ,medisafe mobile app, whatsapp communication . Post -test assessment of self- care activities and functional ability were done on the first follow up visit ie 1 month after discharge. The results revealed a significant difference in self -care activities and functional ability(P<.001).
